Guru Dutt was a True Legent

Guru Dutt. 1925-1964
Like Alfred Hitchcock in the US, Guru Dutt never strayed outside the confines of mainstream cinema. He played by the rules for almost the whole of his career; his only foray into artier turf, Kaagaz ke Phool, was a box office bomb. But like Hitchcock his sequences redefined how movies could be shot; his technical prowess and storytelling genius made all the conventions of pop cinema new again.
He is remembered in the history of Indian cinema as the brooding intense romantic who attempted to reflect the changing social situation in India in the fifties. Within his short life, he created some of India's most socially-conscious movies like Pyaasa(Thirsty, 1957), Kaagaz ke Phool (Paper Flowers, 1960) and Baazi (1951). He also introduced Waheeda Rehman inCID (1956) and propelled her to stardom through his films.
Born in Calcutta in 1925, Guru Dutt worked as a telephone operator before he embarked on his career as an actor and director in 1944. The fifties was the time when India, under Nehru's brand of state socialism, was embarking on massive industrialization. The conventional wisdom has it that rapid changes introduced by industrialization were undermining traditional values'. What is certain is that industrialization, and the accompanying migration from rural to urban areas, was creating -- as it still does in India -- anomie, dislocation, and new social norms. In the urban environment, new social relations developed. It is, therefore, not surprising that a recurring theme in his films is the attraction, bound to be fatal, that develops between a middle class girl and a tough but likeable character from the lower class. His most memorable movie in this genre is probably Pyaasa. Inspired by Sarat Chandra's novel, Srikanta, it depicts the romance between a poet and a prostitute. The genuine poet cannot survive amidst philistines and publishers interested only in profiteering: the spectre of the big city is everywhere in Guru Dutt's films.

Arrambam - a new trend for mass heroes

Thala Ajith had made quite a few heads turn with his daring act in the 2011 superhit, Mankatha. His 'sans makeup' 'salt and pepper' looks and mean Anti-hero in the movie were lapped up by the masses. Now, for his upcoming Arrambam, he is continuing his much loved 'salt and pepper' looks and director Vishnuvardhan expects that Arrambam will prove to be a trendsetter for other mass heroes to also try similar films.
In Arrambam, there won't be any 'running around trees' romance, unbelievable stunts or society reforming punch dialogues from Ajith and such image building scenes
have been avoided totally. This in itself would kickoff a new trend for mass heroes like Ajith, feels Vishnuvardhan.
Since Ajith is one who doesn't care much about his onscreen image, the director's job was made easier. Vishnu also vouches that no other actor can carry off this 'salt and pepper' look as casually and stylishly as Ajith has been doing.

Power star Pawan's Producer Gets 20 Crore Profit

Atharintiki Dharedhi clears censors
A regional film making a profit of Rs 20 crore even before the theatrical release is something very rare to happen. 'Atharintiki Daredi' has achieved this rare feat to create history!

According to trade pundits, 'Atharintiki Daredi' fetched a table profit of about Rs 20 crores to the producer. Factors like Pawan Kalyan's craze, Pawan-Trivikram-DSP combo, Samantha's golden-leg sentiment, entertainment quotient and universal appeal of the movie played a key role here.

These days, A big film has to recover at least 70 % of the investment in the first week itself because of the wide release else everyone associated with the film will be incurring hefty losses. To be in a safe zone, 'Atharintiki Daredi' has to make a Worlwide share of Rs 45 crores by the end of first week run at the Box Office. The only hurdle for the movie is the ongoing agitations in Seemandhra against the Telangana state. If the issue settles down by August 9th, nothing could stop Pawan's Box Office tsunami. Fingers-Crossed!

MNS threatens to derail 'Chennai Express'

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Wednesday threatened to disrupt the release of the Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer 'Chennai Express'.
The party's film unit is upset over reports that the Rohit Shetty-directed movie has demanded prime slots in single cinemas across the state at the expense of some Marathi movies that are being screened.
"If the producers of 'Chennai Express' attempt to dislodge any of the ongoing or forthcoming Marathi movies, we shall not tolerate it and deal with it in MNS style," warned Maharashtra Navnirman Chitrapat Karmachari Sena (film wing) chief Amey Khopkar.
He specifically referred to the hit Marathi movie 'Duniyadari', running to full houses since July 19 in single screen cinemas in non-metro cities and small towns.
Khopkar said his party had written to owners of all single cinema halls and other cinemas seeking a commitment they would not take out 'Duniyadari' from their screens to accommodate 'Chennai Express'.
"If the 'Chennai Express' producers attempt to do this, we shall not let the movie be exhibited in cinemas of the state. We shall also remove their publicity posters from Thursday," Khopkar declared.
Based on the best-selling novel of the same title by the late Suhas Shirvalkar, 'Duniyadari' has been a major commercial success with critical acclaim.
With Swapnil Joshi and Urmila Kanitkar in the lead roles, it shows the journey of a modern affluent youngster's life

Indian Cinema Starting Era

Hi guys ,

This is my First Post of our indian cinema..
First of all in 1913 we have produced Raja Harichantra in silent mode . But i am telling not that story. i am telling in our modern era of 1st sound film in indian cinema..

Alam ara was a 1st indain sound oriented movie in 1931 directed by Ardeshir irani and produced by imperial movietone.  this story was a triangle love drama.  In that tyme we dont have recording theatre and all.. so As Playback singing had yet to start in Indian cinema, it was recorded live with musical accompaniment of a harmonium and a tabla.
